This is a Western Fence Lizard that we came across during a hike along the Kings River. There is some evidence that the bacteria that causes Lyme disease is killed when ticks feed on this lizard's blood.

We added a bird feeder to our yard this year. We've enjoyed watching the cardinals, sparrows, chickadees, and nut hatches come to the feeder. We did not expect to be providing food to this bird. The hawk caught a wren that had been hanging around the feeder. Its meal was enjoyed in one our trees after first plucking the wren.

There were scuba divers out there, but it was much too cold for the average swimmer in December.

At this time last week, I was outside shoveling almost two feet of snow. The only traces of the storm are a few small piles near the driveway and the branches broken by the weight of the snow.

In the ruins of an old Roman city near Seville, there were some large mosaics. I tried to capture the detail of one. These mosaics were several meters wide so you can imagine how much work went into creating them.

While in Spain, we were able to visit the ruins of an old Roman city. The brochure said that many of the relics had been stolen and sold to wealthy collectors. This guy was still around but sans arms.

The crosswalks in Seville were not positioned at street corners but further down the street with their own stop lights. The cars usually stopped for pedestrians.

I am pleased with this one because I "saw it" before I took it. We had been climbing to the top of the bell tower of the cathedral in Seville, stopping to look out the windows at each level. Near the top, I saw this photo. I knew the cathedral would appear back-lit. I did not count on such a strong solar flare effect, but I like it. This fits with my interest in capturing interesting lighting effects.
